Upgrade the history
Scanning the newspaper I suddenly saw this article about the Colosseum in Rome. I immediately was interested about it. I’m just in love with ancient buildings. So I started reading it. I thought it was about a renovation or a demolishing of it or something like that. But no. Italy wants to give a new look and perspective on the Colosseum. And would say a very interesting one.
Renovation of the Ancient
If you go to a trip in Rome, you will instantly visit the Colosseum. Anyway, most of the people will. The floor in this ruine has been removed back in the 19th century. Because of this, you can see the catacomb that used to lay under the battlefield of the amphitheater. And now the Italian minister of Culture wants to build a new floor in this middle aged building. His opinion floats on a few ideas.
Taking back the Floor
At first the Italian Minister is thinking about creating a new sight on the colosseum. The floor will separate the cave from the catacomb with the amphitheater above. They want to create a museum for us visitors. During this trip one can see the amphitheater in a different view. This makes our experience more complete.
The ancient in a new jacket
But I think what’s even more interesting is that with a floor in the colosseum the Italian Minister wants to create a venue for events. He has the idea of a soccer match between AS Roma and AC Milan that is helt in the old Amphitheatre. Or music concerts that will be settles here. The floor will lift up the capability of this ancient building. For us young people this place is going to be much more attractive to go to. Besides, this ideas increases money. If the events go mainstream on tv, millions of euros will load in. All this money can be used for restauration of the Colosseum. Together we will help building a future for this piece of history.
That special feeling
The future colesseum, including a floor, will be a very refreshing area. If I am visiting a concert of john Legend in the Colosseum for instance, it could be a more experienced one. The old-fashioned setting around the floor will give you and me a very cosy feeling. Back to basics really. You are not visiting a concert in a static concert building with four straight dark walls. The ruins of the coloseum could definitely give us a more special feeling.
I A Lumia Live sessions
I found sort of the same thing on Youtube. The I A Lumia Live Sessions, a music concern in England. This Empty swimming bath in the following video, the Chadderton Baths in Manchester, is used for a live session with music. The echo of the music throughout the swimming hall makes this experience one with a deferent atmosphere. The acoustics are different. Beside this empthy bath, these live sessions include other intimate and different locations. I Just love this whole concept of chilling with live music in another setting.
More and more ‘Real’ venues
I have named the word ‘Experience’ a few times now. That is because this concept has been placed in the ‘Experience Economy’ by me. It breathes Authenticity for example. The colosseum will not be decorated. It is about the Real environment of amphitheater and not about all the light shows and the fireworks. We want the real experience. During the I A Lumia sessions enjoying the small things, just consuming good live music with a bottle of wine, is the highest priority. It is called Wonderlust, liking the little things again. And because you are having a good time with a pleasant experience, you will judge your Quality of Life much better. This particularly desire of ours makes that this different type of concepts will be expanding near us. Less is more…?
