Debranding is Trending

When walking down the shopping streets, most of the people let their eye fall on the famous branded products in the stores. I am one of those people. If a H&M store passes by, it’s easier for me to buy a t-shirt then when a different store passes by. This is normal behavior. But since a few weeks a broke this behavior. A bought a t-shirt from a starting company, who had no shop at all. I did not now the quality of it. It was just a t-shirt that fitted in my personal preference. How can shops do this?

The information overload

This year, 2015, the world will keep on spreading information in overload. Brands are shooting all over us whit their marketing strategies about their product. People almost buy products of these brands blindfolded. These brands are trusted and show us more luxury on their package. But all of this has been a boundary for people to discover new brands. And me as somebody who want to explore, this is kind of silly.

Explore

How can stores give their customers the opportunity to explore new things? Desirée Parfumes in the city of Milan in Italy has found a creative way for that. To let go of the mask, Fragrances are shown without brands on it. All bottles are testers, so that customers will have to opportunity to explore. Besides that, there are only a few types of bottles in the store, they all look quite the same.

See through the brands

All of this is actually done so that customers will at first not be disturbed by the beauty of the package. For me that is also a reason to buy something. If it is beautiful packed, it attracts me more. But what does that say about the quality of the product, not much! And secondly the debranded package gives us no prejudgment on products and stores. You and I will more easy be attracted to cheaper fragrances instead of a Chanel or a celebrity perfume like Usher or Xtina Aguilera.

Buy it first, brand it later

If the costumer is satisfied about his newly explored cologne, he will go to the counter. Here, the brand of the perfume is told by the assistants. Only then you know if it’s a cheap brand or a famous one, what its price is and how big the real bottle is. I think people will be amazed by the outcome. Maybe it shows them that the cheaper brands are even as good smelling as the famous ones.

Anything for the individual

Debranding will lift up our quality of life. In this matter, fragrances will fit the individual more. It betters their identity. And that is important these days. Everyone is looking for his own image (I definitely do..). One is identifying his or herself by the small things more, such as smell. It is all about the individual. These kind of concepts will therefore raise in number. Now it is still a new thing. That will change. Quality stands above Quantity!

As I sad, you don’t have to be amazed if a debranded store instantly appears in your neighborhood or in the shopping district. How much percent of the shopping area will be a debranded store in the future? We don’t know, but as it seems to me, people need these kind of concepts. So a lot more ‘Bold stores’ will catch our eyes.
