The future of transport

In previous blogpost I already mentioned the population growth on earth, up till 9/10 billion people. The city has to grow with it. How will it be able to handle the streams of human beings that are crossing the city, day in and day out? And how can we do it in a way that we keep the earth wellbeing in eye?

Cars with communication and feelings

I found an article about a future highway, which is part of the future city. It contains a highway with a magnetic field, with solar panels. It gives energy to the cars that drive on it. By the way, these cars are electric. The cars are loaded with energy while driving. And to provide cars from crashing against another car, they will be communicating with each other. They will keep a minimal distance in meters from the front moving car.

Glow in the dark lines

Someone who is really an influencer in this business is Daan Roosegaarde. In the case, he came up with Glow in the dark Lining, on the side of the highway. By day, solar panels will provide these lines from energy. When the dark hits, the lines will glow. It improves the safety for drivers, because they will have a better coordination about where the way ends. End it is sustainable, because the sun is its energy source.

Glow in the dark trees

To continue on this Glow in the dark thing, I will bring up the luminous trees (Also from Daan Roosegaarde). These trees could be replacer of the streetlights we now have. Daan was inspired by fireflies and jellyfish and how the produce light on their own. He put the substance which created that light into plants. And guess what… They were glowing up at night. The next step is to implant this in trees, what will make it natural street lights.

Artistically meets sustainable

It’s a very cool idea, imagining these four innovations on the Future Highway. And what makes it cool in the very first place, is that these innovations are less technological than you expect in the future. As Daan Roosegaarde says, in the coming decades, one will use less technology and screens than we do now. The artistic part, combined with the sustainable part though, makes this a very interesting and realistic growth market. Living in a city with quality.

The lighting trees, the Glow in the dark highway lining, the solarpanel ways and smart mobility will make our urban society more liveable. It is interesting to see how we ga back te nature the rebuild our handmade cities.
